Boat Trip April 10th 2011
![]() Sunday April 10th and the sun was shining as usual as more than 25 happy people gathered by the jetty ready to board the Pirogue. Excited passengers and ACA Committee Members were greeted by the crew and helped aboard. All the provisions for a great day out were loaded and the ropes untied and off we sailed. Once we had everyone settled, some on the lower deck and some up the stairs to the top deck and each finding a comfortable place to either sleep, read a book, chat or book with the Masseuse/Therapist for a relaxing massage or a manicure/pedicure. Then the breakfast tables were set up, fresh bread, butter, crackers, cheeses, egg mayonnaise, hummus and tea or coffee. We continued to sail peacefully along the creeks and a little fishing was done and some more chatting etc, the ACA T-shirts and Magnets/Key Rings were examined and purchased and then it was time to eat again and the Lunch Tables were set up. The tables were laden with all sorts of tempting dishes - Quiches, Salads, Coleslaw, a variety of vegetarian dishes, Pasta Dishes and cold roast chicken and stuffing! Everyone was impressed to see such a marvelous array of fine foods and of course the bar was open for a cooling beer, glass of wine or a soft drink. After lunch a few people carried on with their fishing lines and then amazing numbers of people were jumping over the side and splashing about in the water and cameras were quickly out and keen photographers were snapping away. Please take a look at all this activity, some amazing attempts at synchronized swimming, group waves and Micha and his temporary loan of the dugout that he saw nestling in the mangroves! All of this we have managed to capture and we would love to share these pictures with you - please take a look and see what fun can be had on a Sunday in the creeks. While relaxing after lunch and before afternoon tea, David from Kim Kombo delivered an interesting and entertaining chat about the Plantation and Distillery. David then wandered amongst us offering us samples of the many and varied liquers - all delicious and homemade here in The Gambia. All of this was then finished off by Tea and Coffee and delicious homemade cakes and biscuits. (And even more swimming!) NEXT BOAT TRIP TO BE ARRANGED - WHEN DATE IS ANNOUNCED - WHY NOT GIVE IT A WHIRL? |
