Donkey and her mother were strolling around for more than 1 month in Senegambia area, nobody ever saw the owner caring for them. Donkey hit by a Taxi in the morning of 17th February and Veterinary contacted.
Fracture of the Radius, the lower arm bone on the right side. Skin intact.
Sedation to make her lay down, manual correction of the fracture, making a cast out of the half shell of a plastic water pipe, padding the cast with endless meters of cotton wool and elastic gauze bandage. Fixation of the half shell with sticky tape. Donkey awake 15 min after procedure, able to stand up 30 min later!
Puts weight on the leg the day after, normal food and water intake.
Donkey disappeared on Sunday morning, 20.02. from Papillon restaurant. Was seen walking towards Bijilo. Is to be reported missing to local authorities. Bandage can stay in place for 2-3 weeks, as long as she puts weight on it.
All of us have been keeping a close eye out for this donkey, but to date no sightings reported. It is wondered if donkey has been “claimed” by owner now it has been treated for the injury and the bandage has been removed, making it difficult to identify her now.
